A Senate committee that oversees federal health agencies capped insulin at $35 a month for privately insured patients yesterday, then returns today to decide whether Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s pick to run the CDC survives committee.
The INSULIN Act of 2026 passed 17-5 in Wednesday's executive session. Today's nominee vote covers CDC director pick Erica Schwartz and HHS preparedness chief Sean Kaufman, both questioned on vaccine independence at their July 15 hearing.
Why it matters
This is a step toward a federal insulin price cap and a look at who will run the CDC amid vaccine policy tension with HHS Secretary Kennedy. Watch whether the committee actually advances the nominees today and whether the insulin bill gets floor time.

Alert  Confidence: Medium
Michigan's own count of cyclosporiasis cases in the Taco Bell lettuce outbreak we've been tracking jumped 600 in a single day this week, and state health officials say it could be the largest such outbreak in US history.
The state's case count hit 7,171 as of July 22, spread across 55 counties, about 31 times Michigan's typical annual caseload. Hospitalizations more than doubled to 102 in the week before that count.
Why it matters
This is one of the largest foodborne illness outbreaks on record in the US, so if you ate at a Michigan Taco Bell recently and have prolonged diarrhea, watch for cyclosporiasis symptoms and seek testing.
