Earnings  Confidence: High
Tenet Healthcare, the hospital chain, beat Wall Street's second quarter profit estimate by $1.86 a share and raised its full year guidance sharply, the kind of number that moves a hospital stock double digits in one session.
Adjusted EPS of $6.12 beat the roughly $4.26 estimate; revenue hit $5.63 billion, up 6.8%. Tenet raised FY2026 EPS guidance to $20.30-$21.69 and revenue to $21.9B-$22.5B. Shares rose as much as 15%.
Why it matters
Strong hospital chain earnings suggest underlying demand for hospital care remains robust despite ongoing cost and coverage pressures elsewhere in the industry.

Earnings  Confidence: High
HCA Healthcare, the nation's largest for-profit hospital chain, booked two nearly equal and opposite $400 million swings last quarter, one from patients who lost Affordable Care Act coverage, one from Florida's Medicaid program.
An ACA-exchange coverage-loss hit and a Florida Medicaid supplemental-payment boost each ran about $400 million, largely canceling out. Revenue $20.23 billion (+8.7%), diluted EPS $7.62 (+11.6%).
Why it matters
The offsetting swing shows how directly a hospital chain's profits can hinge on two policy levers, ACA exchange enrollment and state Medicaid supplemental payment programs, both now under federal scrutiny.
