The Federal Trade Commission's three year fight with the Big Three pharmacy middlemen, called PBMs, over insulin pricing is down to one holdout after CVS's Caremark closed its case.
Caremark's July 14 settlement delinks its pay from insulin's list price and could save patients up to 8.5B over 10 years. Optum Rx has a proposed deal pending, no final order yet.
Why it matters
This closes one of the biggest PBM antitrust cases in years and signals that low cost insulin access terms are becoming standard practice at major pharmacy benefit managers. Watch whether Optum Rx follows with a final order.
