CommonSpirit nurses protest a third California hospital over cuts
Plus: FRONTIER SCAN: AMN Healthcare posts best quarter since 2024 crash. The day's rules, money, and enforcement, sourced and tiered below.
Other  Confidence: High
CommonSpirit Health, the nonprofit hospital giant behind Dignity Health, is facing nurse protests at a third California hospital this month, this time over cuts to maternity and cancer-infusion staffing.
Nurses at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital picketed August 6 against a plan to cut Family Birth Center and infusion-therapy staff. CommonSpirit lost 578 million dollars from operations last quarter alone, a 5.8 percent margin.
Why it matters
A major nonprofit hospital system is cutting maternity and cancer infusion staff while posting steep quarterly losses, a pattern worth watching if you or a family member relies on one of its hospitals for these services.
Earnings  Confidence: High
FRONTIER SCAN. AMN Healthcare, the largest US healthcare staffing firm that supplies hospitals with travel nurses, just posted its strongest quarter since the travel-nurse market crashed in 2024.
Adjusted EBITDA rose 26 percent to 73.4 million dollars in Q2 as travel nursing volume grew for a second straight quarter. AMN's own guidance still points to sluggish 1 to 3 percent revenue growth next quarter.
Why it matters
The largest US healthcare staffing firm says hospital reliance on travel nurses is stabilizing after a two year slide, a signal the post-pandemic staffing crunch is easing.
