Reviewers found 28 of 351 examined organ-donation cases may have involved patients who weren't yet deceased when procurement began. Network for Hope plans to appeal; the finding is only the second OPO decertification ever. Why it matters This is only the second time the federal government has ever pulled an organ procurement group's certification, and it centers on whether patients were treated as deceased before they actually were. Watch whether Network for Hope's appeal succeeds and whether other OPOs face similar scrutiny. The bill also delays a ban on hemp-derived THC products from November 12 to December 11 after a White House push. It now goes to the House, which passed a different, more bare-bones funding patch before its recess. Why it matters This averts a government shutdown before the midterms and keeps WIC and other programs funded through December 11, but it still needs House agreement on a bill that differs from what the House already passed.
