TVH pays $541.5M in largest FL healthcare fraud settlement

Enforcement  Confidence: Medium
The Villages Health System, a Florida physician group that treats Medicare Advantage patients, will pay $541.5 million after admitting it padded diagnosis codes to collect bigger government payments.
It self-reported the scheme in 2024. Three insurers, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and Florida Blue, are now returning the extra payments to Medicare. No executive faced criminal charges.
Why it matters
This is the largest healthcare fraud settlement in Florida history and shows federal enforcers can still recover big money from Medicare Advantage coding schemes even after a company files for bankruptcy. Watch whether other physician groups facing similar coding scrutiny follow TVH's self-disclosure playbook.

Funding  Confidence: Medium
Georgia, a state betting big on saving its rural hospitals, just received $93.3 million in federal money to buy surgical robots and expand telehealth at 87 rural hospitals.
The award is part of Georgia's $218 million first-year share of a $50 billion federal program. It also funds paramedic training, hospital cybersecurity and maternal health services.
Why it matters
This is new federal money flowing to rural hospitals under a $50 billion, five-year program, worth watching for whether it stabilizes struggling rural facilities or just funds equipment purchases without addressing underlying financial pressure.
