KFF finds $60B national Medicaid hospital funding squeeze, Texas crisis deepens

Report  Confidence: High
A new government tally finds Medicaid hospital funding across at least 8 states, including Texas, exceeds Congress's incoming payment limits by more than 60 billion dollars, and Texas hospitals are already feeling the cut.
Texas Hospital Association says the state's hospitals are losing 27 million dollars a day after CMS withheld 9.8 billion dollars in Medicaid payments. Up to 27 rural hospitals face immediate closure risk.
Why it matters
This is about whether the federal government follows through on a scheduled cut to hospital Medicaid funding, and Texas shows what happens when it does: real, immediate revenue loss and rural hospital closures. Watch whether other high-exposure states follow the Texas trajectory.

Deadline  Confidence: Medium
Four of the biggest Medicare Advantage insurers, Humana, UnitedHealth, Elevance Health and Centene, told Wall Street this summer which plans they are killing off, weeks before members legally have to be told themselves.
Humana plans to exit plans covering 600,000 members, UnitedHealth expects to shed 1.1 million. The notices that tell members their coverage is ending aren't due until October 2, just 66 days before enrollment closes.
Why it matters
The insurers already told Wall Street which Medicare Advantage plans are ending in 2027; if you or a family member is on one of these plans, you likely will not find out from your insurer until October 2, leaving 66 days before Open Enrollment closes.
