Humana up, Alignment down on 2027 star ratings
Plus: CD&R and McKesson take Option Care Health private. The day's rules, money, and enforcement, sourced and tiered below.
Report  Confidence: High
The Medicare Advantage insurers Humana and Alignment Healthcare split after CMS posted 2027 star ratings: Humana up almost 13% after hours, Alignment down over 20%.
Alignment's California plan, about 75% of its members, falls to 3.5 stars. It says 2026 and 2027 revenue is unaffected, 2028 bonuses are not, and it expects to sue. Humana says it beat its top-quartile goal.
Why it matters
Star ratings set quality bonus money two years out, so a rating posted this week decides 2028 revenue for insurers and shapes the plan choices seniors see. Watch Alignment's appeals and any lawsuit over the measures.

Deal  Confidence: High
Drug wholesaler McKesson and private equity firm CD&R will take home-infusion provider Option Care Health private at about $5.8B, a 37% premium.
CD&R holds 51%. McKesson invests $1.4B for 49% and has a framework to buy the rest later. Option Care pulled its 2026 guidance. Close expected in the first half of 2027.
